Serial version of the electric concept car Cupra DarkRebel remains a „dream“ for company CEO Wayne Griffiths. However, such a car will not appear soon, as Cupra has other priorities that need to bring profit and volume much earlier, as they enter a period for which Griffiths hopes will be „exponential growth“.
Griffiths told „Autocar“: „It’s a car that I would love to create, but you do that when you can afford it. When you have limited resources, you have to prioritize, so obviously the next generation of Cupra cars and electric cars are a big priority for me. DarkRebel would do a great job for Cupra in terms of image and positioning, but in terms of generating profitability and volume, definitely not.“
The company’s CEO added:
„It could be a real game-changer for the Cupra brand at some point in the future, but for now it remains a dream.“
Chief designer Jorge Diez previously told „Autocar“ that the car is a result of a brand that can „truly dream“, saying: „(Without) any legacy or need to stick to the DNA, we can create it from scratch, which offers thousands of possibilities, but it is emotional design, human design.“
Griffiths also said:
„Cupra DarkRebel is the latest provocation of the brand, created without limits of the real world. This car is created for the next generation, it is a rebel with a purpose, showing that electric cars can be sexy, emotional and shocking,“ Griffiths said. „I believe Cupra is pure obsession. It is a brand made by people who are fascinated by what they do. DarkRebel is proof of this passion taken to the limits.“
DarkRebel is expected to bring Cupra DNA to the maximum without any boundaries. It is not a prediction, but a provocation, which shows that design is a dialogue, not a process.
The length of the vehicle is 450 cm, width 220 cm, and height 130 cm.
DarkRebel is a driver-oriented car, with a radical interior that evolves with an asymmetric central backbone as the structural core of the car, with progressive seats and a progressive steering wheel and gearbox that connects man and machine into one, as reported by „AutoBlog“.
